Current Favorites

Hi! I was going to do a May favorites but it’s mid-June. Then I was going to do a June favorites… but it’s mid-June. So let’s call this my current favorites.

I know I’m late to the thrift game, but I’m obsessed with this site as of late. As if I didn’t have a shopping problem before, now I can have a more sustainably-friendly bad habit. Goodbye fast fashion, hello vintage.

As much as I love the convenience (and price tag) of a good H&M sale item, I’m working to cut out fast fashion. Fast fashion has a heavy impact on the environment, from production to our consumer habits. Second hand shopping is a gold mine, especially when you love the thrill of a good find.

One of my favorite parts of using Poshmark is the ability to make offers on items + create bundles from sellers for a discounted price. I literally made my first purchase the same day I downloaded the app and am now the proud owner of two beautiful vintage purses. I also have a shipment of vintage clothes headed my way as we speak.

And without further ado (and without sounding too sales-y), you can use my referral code ALYSKAAA for $10 off your first purchase. Two shops I recommending checking out - @brooklynastor + @astilbes - both have a great selection of vintage-y finds.

Glossier Stretch Concealer

An oldie but a goodie. I think I’ve been carrying this bad boy around for over a year (tbh probably time for a new one), but I have rekindled my love for this concealer. If you’re not familiar with Glossier, I highly recommend checking them out. Support cruelty free brands!

The concealer is more of a cream base, with light to medium(ish) coverage. I definitely recommend setting it with a powder, as it’s very dewy and tends to transfer if used alone. I personally use it in place of a foundation - over any problem areas and beneath my eyes. I also use Glossier’s Cloud Paint in my everyday routine.

Shameless plug…

Youth To The People Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Superfood Cleanser

I’ve never been one of those people that have a holy grail product, purely because I f*cking love skincare and I have to try it ALL

I am a changed woman. Get this cleanser. You need it. Your friends need it. Your mom needs it. Your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner needs it. It’s so good in all it’s simplicity. I use it morning + night. It removes makeup beautifully. It doesn’t leave you feeling like everything has been ripped from your face. Youth To The People is a beautiful brand that’s vegan/cruelty free/sustainably friendly. It’s the first cleanser I’ve ever repurchased (besides Lush’s Fresh Farmacy, but that’s for another day).

What more could you ask for? (For the brand to do something good in the world, too, you say). They do that, too! For this beautiful month of Pride, 100% of profits from this holy grail cleanser goes towards GLSEN, an organization that works to create safe and inclusive schools for LGBTQ students! Let’s continue to be better!

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

Everyone needs an oil in their life. You’re oily? Put an oil into your routine. You’re dry? Also put an oil into your routine. The quality + price is what really sold me. I’ve tried other rose hip oils (I’m looking at you, Amazon) and nothing compares. For a whole $9.80, I’ve had this bottle last me since February. I use 3-4 drops twice a day, sometimes alone and other times in a skincare cocktail. In the AM, I like to mix it into my YTTP Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi . In the PM, I will use it 1) alone after a treatment or 2) mixed together with The Ordinary’s “B” Oil (which is also really, really good).

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%

This is oh-so-easily a Sunday Riley Good Genes dupe at a literal fraction of the price. For $6.80 (!!!), this lactic acid peel works as a chemical exfoliator. I’ve also been using this product since February, 3-4 times a week before bed, and I have noticed a massive difference in the texture of my skin. It burns oh-so-good, which I personally love in a skincare product. This brand is also cruelty free and sustainably friendly.

Organically Bath & Beauty Whipped Body Mousse

We love supporting local businesses, especially those that specialize in fresh, organic products. I have fallen in love with the whipped body mousse in the scent Angelic. It’s light and fresh but feels rich on the skin with the main ingredient being shea butter. It’s one of the few body lotions I have found that actually sinks into the skin instead of sitting on top. I can apply it at night after a shower and have it last through the next day. I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of their range.

Leave me what you’ve been loving in the comments. I’m always down for recommendations, especially tried and true favorites.

I’m Alyssa. I’m 23(ish) - but I sometimes I feel 20 and other times I feel 29-on-the-verge of 30. I like things, like skincare + clothing + home stuffs + others. Don’t worry, I’m not all materialistic. I’m also keen to having conversations surrounding politics (we have to be better than this) + global warming (yes, it’s a thing and if you think otherwise, that’s your ignorance) + women’s rights (yes, still working on that equality) + other(s) rights (no one needs a f*cking wall, come on) + so on and so forth (please adopt don’t shop). I’m working to make myself a better, more educated human being in all aspects of life.

I hit my not-quite-but-almost mid-20’s crisis and could feel the creative juices suddenly flowing with inspiration to share my very important and enlightening millennial thoughts. A blog was then formed from this essential dread - very inspiring, I know. I mostly promise not to weigh this blog down with the heavy things - prepare to see this space filled with a good amount of material-related posts, as it’s the little things that keep us going. Consider it a lifestyle blog, per se.
